Growing up on and around the water and then emerging himself into the aquaculture industry has given Darren Clarke a lifetime of insight into the issues that our coastlines face both from recreational and commercial pressures. After the downfalls and staff shortages that many companies faced during the COVID pandemic, Darren, with his itchy feet and booming personality gave birth to an environmental initiative called “The Better Beaches Project”.

The project was aimed to support industry cleans already in place but just give that extra boost to places known around the top of the south that act as debris hot spots, often due to the topography nature and becoming catchments or areas frequently used by the public and the industry. 

The Better Beaches Project is in its 6th year running now and the team are happy that with continued support from loyal sponsors and more joining, that continued efforts and hundreds of kilos of rubbish are being kept and cleaned off our beaches.
